In addition to actually watching the Super Bowl on Sunday I enrolled in a Candy making class. The class was about how to make different types of chocolate candies and covered everything
from chocolate lollipops to truffles. I thought trying out my newfound skills in the form of football-shaped lollipops seemed appropriate for the day. Aren’t they neat!

Tonight Ekrina and I had our third and next-to-last cake decorating class. We reviewed a variety of different cake decorating techniques. First, we went over how to create different sized circles which are used for piping items such as faces, dots, round fruits, or a variety of other round item. Next, we covered shell borders which are the scalloped looking borders that you see on cakes in the bakery section of your local grocery. Finally, we learned how to pipe clowns!

This past Wednesday, Ekrina and I had our second cake decorating class. There is a lot more prep work involved in taking a cake decorating class than I’d originally expected. It turns out they don’t supply a prepared cake for you to start honing your decorating skills on. Prior to class you have to bake the cake you will be decorating. Then you must prepare the frosting for frosting the cake and to use for piping decorations during class. Continue Reading »
