Tonight Ekrina and I had our third and next-to-last cake decorating class.  We reviewed a variety of different cake decorating techniques.  First, we went over how to create different sized circles which are used for piping items such as faces, dots, round fruits, or a variety of other round item.  Next, we covered shell borders which are the scalloped looking borders that you see on cakes in the bakery section of your local grocery.  Finally, we learned how to pipe clowns!

The clowns were amazingly simple to create since the body is made of buttercream frosting.  To begin the clown, you pipe the torso directly up in the center of the cupcake.  Next, the legs and arms are piped separately from the appropriate points of the body.  Small dots are piped to represent the hands, feet and buttons on the clown’s costume.  The final step to making the clown is to stick a clown head into the center of the torso.  The clown head is the only part of the clown that is not made out of buttercream frosting.  Hope you enjoy viewing the results of tonight’s class!
