The Pocket Mod Scooter
We got Ekrina a mini-scooter over the holidays and it’s been one of her favorite gifts. Daddy and daughter have been riding it together weekly. Sunday marked a special day in that Ekrina no longer required me to ride with her, although, she could only go short distances with her feet still cautiously dragging the ground.
The “Pocket Mod” Scooter by Razor is rated at 150lbs* maximum load at a top speed of 15mph. With Ekrina and me on it, we easily exceeded the carrying capacity. I admit to being worried at first, with thoughts such as: Will the electric motor give out? Are we both going to fit on the seat? Should the tires blow out can I still return this thing? Hehe.
For something I would classify as a “toy”, this scooter met my expectations and more. Bearing both of our weights, it was like the little engine that could, chugging us along the sidewalk at close to 10mph - just 5mph shy of it’s top speed. Not only that, the batteries (two lead acids) wouldn’t quit, especially when going up hill. On a full charge, we’d enjoy a full 45 minutes of unwavering torque before it would slowly lose power.
Overall, I would say that this scooter was a good buy, aside from feeling the exact opposite on our very first day out. I’m glad Ekrina and I have something fun to do together. Seeing that she still can’t ride a bicycle, I’m hoping that this scooter will bridge the gap and teach her how to balance on two wheels long before she develops the necessary strength AND length in her little legs to pedal around on her own.
