House M.D. returns from hiatus!
I admit it, I am a little slow on the curve when it comes to TV shows. I might discover two or three when they first come out. But the rest I tend to experience somewhere after their first season. House, M.D. was halfway through Season Three when my husband realized it was a good show and we maybe should give it a try. My interest is caught more easily than his however and I simply thought “Hey, that Dr. character that Hugh Laurie is playing is a pretty funny-smart-aleck-damaged-goods-but-yet-still interesting-character to watch.” And of course who can ignore the impressive American accent that normally English-accented Hugh Laurie manages to pull off?
So over the course of a few months we managed to plow through the 3 Season One discs and 6 Season Two discs, watch the second half of Season Three while it was still airing and anxiously await and then watch the first half of Season Three. A little backwards on Season Three but the wonderful thing was that it didn’t matter. House was rather formulaic.
If you are not that familiar with the Season One - Three House formula, I will try to describe it:
The premise of the show is that there are four specialist doctors that Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) leads in the Department of Diagnostic Medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. All of the mystery medical cases that cannot be explained by a normal M.D. come to this department. The typical hour long episode featured a new patient with a mystery illness and centered around the doctors, lead by Dr. House in a rather Socratic method, trying to diagnose the illness before it kills the patient. Sometimes they succeeded in their diagnosis and sometimes they failed but the docs always seemed to have the patients’ best interest at heart. In addition to the typical formula for the single episode, the story of the six main characters was weaved across the seasons.
