A "Wicked" Review
ACT TWO
12. Thank Goodness - Glinda
Time has passed since Elphaba’s escape and Glinda has apparently been set up as the Wizard’s magical assistant and good will ambassador. Fiyero is the captain of the guards leading the hunt to find Elphaba. During the scene Glinda surprises Fiyero with the news that they are now engaged to each other - though he never asked. At the end of the scene it appears that Glinda has everything she’s always wanted and she sings that she couldn’t be happier. However, she is just learning that getting what you want often comes at a high price.
13. Wonderful - The Wizard
The Wizard tries to convince Elphaba that things can be wonderful again and that he is a good guy. He even sets the winged monkeys free to prove it. Elphaba buys his story until she finds the former Professor Dillamond locked in a cage, unable to speak in the Wizards office. The possibility of any reconciliation with Oz is officially gone. She is almost caught but Fiyero puts a gun to the Wizard and then both Elphaba and Fiyero escape together.
14. I’m Not That Girl (Reprise) - Galinda
Galinda has just learned that Fiyero, the man she expected to marry, secretly loved Elphaba the whole time that he was with her. In her jealousy she suggests that Madame Morrible & The Wizard use Nessarose as a lure to catch Elphaba.
15. As Long As You’re Mine - Elphaba
Elphaba and Fiyero finally get to enjoy being together. At the end Elphaba hears that her sister is in trouble and runs to save her. She arrives to find that a house has fallen on her sister and is trapped by the Wizard’s guards. Fiyero arrives to rescue her and holds a gun to Galinda in order for Elphaba to make her escape. This time Fiyero is not able to escape and the guards basically hang him up in a field.
16. No Good Deed - Elphaba
In a panic Elphaba tries to cast a protective spell on Fiyero so that he doesn’t die or feel any pain in his captivity. She also comes to the conclusion that all of her good intentions have come to naught and only resulted in bad things happening. She swears to do no more good deeds.
17. March Of The Witch Hunters - Boq
The mob is riled up against the Wicked With of the West and heads out to "punish" her. Glinda over hears and tries to find Elphaba to warn her.
18. For Good - Galinda
Glinda and Elphaba meet for the last time when Glinda comes to warn Elphaba that she is in dire trouble. Glinda also tells Elphaba to let "the little farm girl and her dog Dodo" go - a reference to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. They sing about how they have been changed by meeting each other, not clearly for the better although they hope it is so, but that they have definitely been changed for good. It is obviously the last time that the two will meet and it appears that Elphaba is planning to end her life as she has realized the limitations that she lives under.
19. Finale "Wicked" - Ensemble
The farm girl throws a bucket of water on Elphaba and she apparently melts away. The crowd rejoices over the death of the Wicked witch. At the end the audience sees that Elphaba is still alive and has apparently staged her demise to be able to escape with Fiyero and no longer be hunted. Fiyero also survived his ordeal by the spell that Elphaba had cast turning him into a straw man. They are sad that they can’t tell Glinda that they survived but they fear that they will never be safe if anyone knows they are alive.
